Customer Tailored Courses

In addition to the standard English courses, the Language Center also offers custom-made courses for specific groups of people. These groups usually consist of people from the same company or department who have similar needs with regard to learning English. Depending on the needs and wishes of such a group, a custom-made course program is developed, incorporating all elements necessary to improve the group’s English skills. Because these courses focus on the specific needs of a particular group of people, the course set-up (intensity and duration) may vary substantially among different groups.

Custom-made Course Examples

Library Staff

For a group of subject librarians who were mainly interested in speaking and presentation skills, the Language Center set up a six-week course (12 hours) involving speaking and presentation activities. In addition, specific library vocabulary and phrases were dealt with.

Courier Service Company (Facility Services)

For approximately 30 Courier Service Company’s staff members the Language Center developed three different English courses, differing in level and content (‘basic’, ‘intermediate’ and ‘high’). Following an intake interview, the employees were assigned to the course that suited them best. The three courses dealt with different aspects ranging from mainly speaking activities and vocabulary acquisition in the basic level group to writing and advanced speaking skills in the high level group.
