It is very nice here! I have been here for 1 1/2 weeks and am staying 3 months. I have already made some friends in my class. I’m going to university back in Japan when I finish my English class. I love the Global English Centre School in Kota Kinabalu because they help you a lot, everyone is very nice and very happy! Every day I ride my bike from the GEC House to school which I enjoy. Yesterday I went to the waterfall, it was great.
I only arrived a few weeks ago but I already feel at home here, Kota Kinabalu is such a friendly place, and perfect for study and having fun too! The staff and students at Global English Centre are great!! This town is very nice and people are very friendly. Global English Centre is conveniently located in Kingfisher area. It has hairdressers, supermarkets, pharmacies, laundry shops and many many restaurants! The quality of the lessons are very good because it’s very relaxing. You can make friends easily and learn more English very quickly.
Previously I have been to the Philippines to study English, I tried that and I wasn’t very satisfied. It was quite dangerous and the student accommodation was not very hygienic. So I decided to come to Malaysia because it was a new destination recommended by my agent. I have been here for 4 weeks and it’s really great. I really had fun with everybody at the school, what is most impressive is that all the teachers are native speakers, I found this quite different from the Philippines and it really helped accelerate my learning to be taught by real professionals. The food in Malaysia is so delicious and very very cheap and on the weekends I played basketball with my fellow students and also some local university students, it was a great experience. The student accommodation provided was so clean and the air conditioner in my room was really cold, I slept so well every night! Compared to Philippines I think Malaysia is much better, everything is so cheap, it’s so safe but most of all the teachers and the English program here at this school is the best that I have ever experienced in my life.
Last year I went to America for a study program, it was good but it was a little expensive. This year by recommendation of my agent, I decided to try Malaysia, it looked so attractive in the brochure. When I arrived at the airport it was great, the school staff picked me up and took me to the school. On the way to the school I could see the many beautiful beaches and mountains…. Exactly as the photos in the brochure ! I had a really great time here in Malaysia, actually most of my friends chose to go to the Philippines but I chose Malaysia, I am so happy I did that because I don’t regret it one bit and all of my friends were so jealous. It really is a lovely country and the people here are so kind and warm hearted. I really like indoor rock climbing so when the school organised that for a weekend activity I was the first one to join! It was such a challenge but I can proudly say that for this moment I hold the GEC Indoor Climbing Record at Level 17.For future students if you can, try to beat my record, because until then Jyunki is GEC Indoor Climbing Champion !!
I really enjoyed my studies at GEC. My teacher is very nice, the course is very interactive, and the topics are interesting ! This is a completely different way of learning; we study with games, in groups, and through activities outside of the school. The nationality mix is very good, I have met people from all over the world! I learned different cultures and shared great moments! Moreover the school has got a lot of facilities, computers, and sofas. It is always neat and comfortable ! Finally I would like to say that I love the activities organised by GEC !! For all those reasons, I would recommend this school to my friends!
Kota Kinabalu, It’s a very nice city! I have been here for 3months. I really had fun with everybody at the school. I couldn’t go into the bar where my friends went because I am the youngest student in this school, but I always went out with them in the park near to the school, talking and having fun, and everyone took care of me. They are very friendly. When I arrived at Global English Centre, I didn’t know how to speak English very well, but as soon as I started the course with the good and friendly teachers every day, my English started improving. It is important to study not only in school but outside of school as well. Going for shopping, going out with your friends is a good way to practice.
Kota Kinabalu is an amazing city which I like, all the natural surroundings are breath taking. The people here are friendly, I can swim all year round and I love the local food! I like the learning environment at Global English Centre – it’s a unique language centre in a unique location. The teachers and students at GEC are friendly and the class sizes are small, which is great for individual attention.
My agent in Korea recommended Global English Centre, Kota Kinabalu to me as there are not so many Koreans here, so I have to use English. The town is not too big and I can go many places every weekend. I have been here for 6 months already and after studying General English I am now in an advanced level IELTS class and will stay here for a whole year with my student visa from Global English Centre. Sometimes I go up to the Lintas area so that I can buy Korean ingredients at the Korean supermarket there so that I can make Korean food. When I finish my course I am planning to travel to Kuala Lumpur and Kuching too!
Coming to Malaysia was my first time to leave Taiwan and it was definitely my first time to study English abroad.Kota Kinabalu, It’s a very nice city! I have been here for 3months. I can surely say that I had the best time of my study life here in this Centre. First, the facility is well maintained that provides me a comfortable environment to study. I particularly like the computer room! The tutor is experienced in teaching IELTS. My teacher was so funny but at the same time helped me learn so much about the English language in such a short time. I felt so comfortable with my teacher and we could talk about anything. Moreover, she always encourages me to participate in class and supported me every step of the way, especially when I was having trouble understanding Task 1 in IELTS Preparation classes! She provides a comfortable and friendly atmosphere for me to express myself. Besides the great classes, GEC organises many activities so that all the students from different classes can meet and know each other. I participated in scuba diving, paintball and the Kinabalu mountain park trip, it was really such a great experience that I will never forget!
In conclusion, it is a great experience to learn English at this Centre. I definitely will suggest it to my friends who need to improve their English but most importantly enjoy doing it at the same time.
Global English Centre (GEC) is a fantastic environment to improve our English. This is due the fact that my English has improved a lot after I attended English courses at GEC. I was a student for 6 weeks in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Preparation Course and also the Grammar Class after IELTS Preparation I also did Effective Report Writing and Effective Presentations, these two classes especially helped me to prepare for my university studies in the United Kingdom. GEC has a really good learning environment. All of the classrooms are really cold and the tables are so clean, it is just so comfortable. Besides that, they also provide water dispensers for students to drink when they feel thirsty. The school had a really strong Wi-Fi signal throughout, it was super convenient. Furthermore, GEC also provides the best teaching staff I have ever met. They helped me to improve my English in every aspect such as Grammar, Writing, Listening and Speaking. I personally think that GEC is a fantastic place to learn or improve English, after all I experienced it myself. Because of GEC I could reach my IELTS Score and attend the University of my Choice in the United Kingdom !!
For me personally, a language is experienced rather than learned, exercised rather than theorised and applied rather than simply reading it out of a book, and that is exactly what the GEC does to help students with the English language. Here at GEC, rather than only listening to the teaching staff, we are also required to provide feedback every now and then, and this creates a good learning environment where students are encouraged to start and apply the English language throughout the whole class, which makes it easier for the teaching staff to identify errors. Also, one of the most important aspect is that this institute provides vital facilities, such as a working internet connection, well-lit and hygienic class with practical learning equipments installed. My time here at GEC has proven to be quite the experience, not only did I manage to pass my IELTS Exam and score much higher than I expected, but I also got to interact with students from outside of my country, and this has helped broaden my perspective. Truly, studying here is worth it!
Hanif received an overall IELTS Band 7.5 , and is now studying at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Zachary received an overall IELTS Band 7.0, and will further his studies in the United Kingdom.
I had a great time in this Centre. First, the facility is well maintained that provides me a comfortable environment to study. I particularly like the computer room! The tutor is experienced in teaching IELTS. She is open minded that we can talk about anything. Moreover, she encourages me to participate in class. She provides a comfortable and friendly atmosphere for me to express myself. It is easy to find parking space at the centre. Lack of parking lot is always an issue in KK, but I do not need to worry about this because there are a lot of parking lots available. Besides the great classes, GEC organises many activities so that all the students from different classes can meet and know each other. For example, we had a day trip to Manukan Island and even Kinabalu Park!In conclusion, it is a great experience to learn English at this Centre. I definitely will suggest it to my friends who need to improve their English but most importantly enjoy doing it at the same time.
I originally applied to study at Global English Centre for 4 weeks but decided to stay here longer, now I have been here for almost 3 months in the IELTS program. It is really fun studying at GEC, everything is really close and it is easy to get around and very relaxed! I am going to work here and open a new company and have to do IELTS to improve my English. It’s really important to me because I came to Malaysia to improve my English.
Wint received an overall IELTS Band 6.5, and will further her studies in the United Kingdom.
